Pilot training in Melbourne provides you with all the challenges you need to become a highly proficient pilot ready to take off with your new career in Aviation.
Your pilot training base will be at Moorabbin Airport in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Moorabbin airport is predominantly for pilot training, charter businesses and private aircraft owners. The airport has 2 sets of parallel runways and one single runway for when the strong westerlies blow.
There is a control tower providing guidance under what are known as GAAP procedures: it is a non radar Tower and services are provided generally between 0800 and 1900. Outside of these hours the airspace reverts to what is known as Class G airspace.
Within easy each of Moorabbin are many other large and small airfields that we use for practice. We often fly to Essendon Airport (very close to the current International Airport) for practice operating in controlled airspace. Outside of this area are numerous airfields ranging from sealed to unsealed, in low country and in high country. These experiences during your pilot training will enable you to practice different techniques under a variety of weather, altitude and surface conditions.
Melbourne’s weather can be changeable so you will experience dramatic shifts over a short period of time that will challenge your decision making skills and ensure you are ready for many of the challenges you will face once you start your airline career.
Apart from the pilot training itself, Melbourne is a great place to live. There are people from all over the world living here so you will be able to find nearly any food you want at reasonable prices. There is great nightlife and a big sporting culture. You can even surf in the morning and snow ski in the afternoon (ok, only during winter and the beach is about 4 hours from the ski fields, but it can be done!!)
