If ever there was a good time for young Indonesian’s aspiring to become Airline Pilots to join the industry, that time is NOW. Indonesian pilots are in demand and the future is bright.
The Indonesian economy remains strong and is expected to become one of the largest economies by 2030. Passenger growth is forecast to be one and a half to two times GDP growth and in the last six years has reached double digits.
Garuda has just announced its intention to double its aircraft fleet size by 2025 with new orders of between 200-250 aircraft, taking its total fleet size to approximately 400. When you combine this with the Lion Air orders of more than five hundred A320’s and Boeing 737’s to meet projected demand over the next decade and expansion by Air Asia Indonesia it is clear that the job opportunities for Indonesian pilots will be outstanding in the foreseeable future.
With each aircraft needing 5-6 crews (10-12 pilots) to operate, that is a lot of pilots needed to fly the new aircraft on order (approximately 2500 for Garuda and 5000 for Lion Air) let alone the demand from all the other Indonesian air carriers.
Whilst there has been some development of pilot training facilities in Indonesia, their output is still well below what the country requires and it suffers from a lack of well qualified local instructors, limited training aircraft and airspace restrictions. Therefore in the short-medium term many aspiring Indonesian airline pilots will continue to travel overseas to undertake their training, which at todays rates are competitive with what local Indonesian flying schools are charging.
For those that may not be able to fully finance their training, with the knowledge that job prospects are strong and pay rates high once you are employed, local Indonesian banks are more inclined to offer students loans, making the career path accessible to a wider proportion of the population than before.
If you are a young Indonesian that dreams of becoming a Pilot, NOW is a great time to get your career started. With current conditions your career decision should be secure and your investment in the future one that can be justified and re-paid in a relatively short time frame.
So, what’s stopping you? Get started now
