Frequently Asked Questions

Costs

You can either make your own arrangements for accommodation or we will put you in contact with our Homestay Provider company to arrange  Homestay accommodation for you. Homestay means to live with a local person/family. There are many people with a spare room that wish to host overseas students like you.

The weekly fee is approximately AUD$360 and includes your room and may also include meals and laundry.

This is often a great way to get started and settle in to your life in Melbourne. Some students choose to stay with this arrangement long term however most use it as a “starting” option and then make their own plans, like renting a house and sharing with fellow students.

If you would like to book in for Homestay, please let us know. You can also check out the cost of rental and share accommodation in Melbourne by visiting:

As we are located in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, we recommend that you live in this area. Some suburbs that are close to us are: Mentone, Cheltenham, Parkdale, Mordialloc, Aspendale, Hyatt, Beaumaris, Moorabbin and Dingley. These suburbs are all 25-30 minutes drive from the city center. If you want to live nearer to the Melbourne city center, again we recommend the south eastern side of the city. But remember, it may be a little more expensive to live closer to the city center area.

The amount you need to cover your living costs will of course vary according to your spending habits however as a guide we suggest a budget of at least $600 Australian dollars per week
Your expenses will include things like:

  • Accommodation
  • Food
  • Transport
  • Entertainment
  • Utility bills (if sharing a house/apartment)
  • Monthly phone and data plan

To give an idea of the MINIMUM amount you would need for living expenses:
The Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence-Aeroplane) course is 68 weeks so you would need $40,800
The Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) is 25 weeks so you would need $15,000

Most people do want their own headsets so we do recommend you buy some.
If you do wish to purchase your own you can do so at the pilot shop at the airport for anywhere between $300 and $1200 ++

Yes, the government regulations require that all overseas students pay the Overseas Student Health Charge (OSHC).

The approximate cost is $600-$800 per year but there are many providers and policies differ. If you do apply, your offer letter will provide the names and website links of a number of these providers so that you can choose a policy that suits you.

As a minimum, the cover entitles you to the same benefits afforded Australian citizens under the Medicare system (i.e public hospital care and the majority of the costs of Doctors’ services are rebated to you).

Yes. The course fees and the hire of the aircraft includes the cost of insurance for damage to the aircraft or injury to passengers.

Your payment schedule will be outlined in your offer letter and international student enrollment agreement.

For CPL, you will be required to pay a deposit then a further installment on commencement and a final installment after 6 months

For those doing CPL with the Instrument Rating you will be required to pay a deposit then a further installment on commencement, another installment after 6 months and a final installment at commencement of your Instrument Rating.

The course is sold as a package, the details of which are outlined in the Courses section of the website. If you require more hours than is allowed, you will be charged at the aircraft retail rate that is current at the time of your flight.
The aircraft rates will be published at the front desk of the school and advised to you before any additional flying is undertaken.
