Frequently Asked Questions

Work and Scholarships

Pilot training is like all types of training whether it be a University course or other vocational training. You are providing yourself with the skills to be employed in a particular field and giving yourself the opportunity to make application for employment, however this training does not come with a guaranteed position.

It is our experience that those students who are dedicated and persistent will eventually be successful in securing themselves a position.

With the growth in airlines and airline travel throughout the world the demand for well qualified pilots remains high.

You can find more information on jobs in the aviation industry in the Jobs section of the web site.

On a student visa you can legally work up to 48 hours in each 2 week period.

Do not expect to come to Australia and earn enough to pay for your course.

You can only expect to earn enough to help subsidise your living expenses.

The average pay for a casual worker is $25-$40/hour.

We cannot arrange work for you. All of our students who wish to work have been able to find part time jobs.

Please note: to be issued a student visa the Australian Department of Home Affairs requires you to have sufficient funds to pay the course fees and living expenses for the duration of the course.

There is no guarantee that you can stay and work in Australia. The purpose of a Student Visa is to undertake study in Australia and then return home. At the time of application, if the Department of Home Affairs believes that your intention is to stay in Australia, your student visa application will be denied

This does not negate your right to apply for a visa to stay and work, something which some of our graduates have been successfully able to do.

If you complete the Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence) and Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) you may be entitled to apply for a 485 Temporary Graduate Visa. Details about this visa can be found here

You may also like to consider talking to a registered migration agent who may be able to assist you with professional advice.

Australia has a strong General Aviation industry and there are jobs however this means airlines recruit from General Aviation (Charter, Flying Schools, Air Ambulance, Corporate Pilots, etc) NOT directly from flying schools. An Australian airline will generally not consider an application from anyone with less than about 1000-1500 hours flight time with 500 multi engine hours. It can take years of hard work to reach this level of experience in Australia whilst in many other countries you will be considered for an airline appointment with just a Commercial Licence and Multi Engine Instrument Rating. Thus it is sometimes the case that your prospects to fast track your career at home to an airline will be better than in Australia.

Many of our graduates are now flying for airlines throughout the world.
Among the major airlines where our graduates are represented are:

  • Qantas
  • Virgin Blue
  • Jestar
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Oman Air
  • Silk Air

All students must make their own financial arrangements for their course of training.

There are no scholarships available.

If you are financing your course by making a loan, you must arrange for this loan in your own country. Australian lending institutions will NOT make loans to non residents.

Please remember, as part of your student visa application the Australian Government may require you to show the entire course fee in a bank account plus sufficient living and travel expenses to and from Australia. They may require you to show the fees in an “approved” account for a period of three months or more before you submit your visa application (the 3 month requirement would NOT apply to a student loan). They want to ensure that you have the funds available to pay your course fees and to support yourself.
