Frequently Asked Questions

Training and Licenses

You may get a job in a small charter company with just a Commercial Licence however you will give yourself a much better chance for Airline selection if you have an Instrument Rating.

All of your training through to Commercial Pilot Licence is in a single engine aeroplane using Visual Flight Rules (this means you navigate by reference to the ground and that you cannot fly through cloud). As you would be aware, airlines do not fly by visual flight- they make their flight plans and conduct their flight according to Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).

If you have conducted instrument training and can fly a multi engine aircraft, the airline will be much more likely to consider you for an interview.

In order to get an ATPL or Airline Transport Pilot Licence you need to do 2
things:

  1. Pass ATPL theory exams (we don’t teach these ourselves but could organise
    this for you)
  2. Build 1500 hours of flying experience.
  3. Some people do the theory early, pass the ATPL exams and get what is known
as a “frozen ATPL” – it then becomes unfrozen once they have the 1500 hours
    flying.
  4. It may not be the best course of action for you however if you really want an Australian frozen ATPL, whilst we do not offer this course, we will advise you how and where to do it
  5. You usually don’t need an ATPL to get a job in an airline as a First Officer (which
is of course what you will be for the first few years as it takes many years
    to gain Captaincy).
  6. Therefore you should build your 1500 hours minimum experience “on the job”
as it would be far too expensive to pay for these hours.

Yes, we can offer the following.

  • Citation Business Jet Endorsement
  • High Performance Aircraft Training / Endorsement in King Air

If interested in undertaking this training, contact us for full details

Previous flying experience may be approved and recognised by the Australian Civil Aviation Authority(CASA).

If you supply us with information on your total hours, dual hours, solo hours, cross country hours, licence held (if any) and the licence/ratings/endorsements you wish to train for, and we will ascertain what credits (if any) CASA will approve and we will then provide you with a proposed course and quote for the estimated training you need to undertake.
